On March 14th 2021, a disturbing article was published by the Nation Newspaper titled “Alarm Over Naked Girl In Cell” detailing the abuse of a 14-year-old girl at the Government Industrial School.

This is unacceptable and we demand #JusticeForOurGirls.

We demand an immediate investigation by the Ministry of Home Affairs into the unfortunate incident involving the alleged inhumane treatment of the 14-year-old girl at the Government Industrial School.

We also call for all findings to be made public and for swift action to ensure the protection and safety of our children in state care.

In light of the recent allegations of sexual grooming of students by former teacher, Mr. Coen Jackson as well as documented proof of his threats to enact sexual violence on an adult woman and the subsequent victim-blaming rhetoric that was aimed at students during assembly by the Headmistress of Bishop’s High School.

Protest action will be held at 12 p.m. today in front of Bishop’s High School. Bring your voices and your placards to send a strong message that victim blaming and slut shaming of these girls will not be tolerated.

Our girls deserve better than this and their right to an education should not be comprised due to the predatory behaviour of teachers who believe that they are entitled to their bodies.
